Ad Word Analyzer Review
(Jeff Alderson)
Rating: 4 stars out of 5 Update - July '07: Get "Micro Niche Finder" instead of this.

Intro: Ad Word Analyzer was the best game in town for a while. It still is a good trade-off between cost and more in-depth keyword research results.
Price: $77
Cons: Because it's main query is Overture, it returns skewed results (see the "Why You Can't Trust Overture's Search Tool" article).
You get a max of 100 related keywords at a time. If you want more you need to do more queries.
Only the singular form of a keyword is returned; if you put in "keywords," for instance, it will look for "keyword."
Pros: Inexpensive. Since it uses Overture, it's a one-time purchase with upgrades for "life." (Although there hasn't been an upgrade---or it hasn't needed an upgrade---for at least a year or so, as of OCT '06).
It's still much better than using the Overture Search Tool by itself. Although the miniaturized screenshot below is a little fuzzy, you can still make out the "Keyword, Searches, Results, R/S (Results/Searches ratio), Google Ads, Overture Ads, CPC (Cost Per Click), and Est. Clicks (Estimated Clicks) headings.
(Notice how "keyword"--singular,was returned.)
Here's another cool feature: Clicking on the blue-linked numbers under the "Google Ads or Overture Ads" category headings returns the actual search result ads. They aren't clickable, however. But you can save the results and check out these high-ranking websites that are com- peting for your keywords. (Keyword Elite has this feature but with much more 'functionality'*.)
*Aren't you tired of that word?..it's as overused as the phrase, "thinking outside the box" ;)
And of course, clicking on any keyword brings up the option of starting another search (in another window) based on that keyword; this allows you to "drill down" further.
So it's a pretty good deal with the amount of good info that you can get in a jiffy for 77 bucks.

I realize I've been slamming the Overture keyword results in these reviews. But remember though, that if you can get an idea of about how much the results are inflated, you'll be able to mentally compen- sate for this disparity. Which is exactly how people are able to use Overture's results with success. (Just adjust the 'scale.')
Personally: **UPDATE** July '07: A new and exciting product is out you may want to check out instead of considering purchasing Ad Word Analyzer. It's called "Micro Niche Finder." (It's on the product review list.) Matter of fact, I'll just cut to the chase and tell you straight up you'd be crazy to buy Ad Word Analyzer over Micro Niche Finder. Besides, Micro Niche Finder is cheaper!
I'd already bought it long before Keyword Elite had come out. And you can't beat the one-time $77 price. But even though I own Keyword Elite and subscribe to WordTracker...
(although--update--I recently got a subscription to NicheBot and will allow my WordTracker subscription to run out)
...I still use Ad Word Analyzer for quick research to see if something is even worth further pursuit. Because it's just so much quicker to use Ad Word Analyzer to get a snapshot of a keyword's demand. Then I'll do a WordTracker query through Keyword Elite.
But this is what I do. It's what works for me...It's all about saving time. For initial quick research, Ad Word Analyzer is perfect. Then, if something looks promising, you can take the more time-consuming but more thorough route of using Keyword Elite to query WordTracker's database. From there, you'll know if a project is going to be profitable or not.
If you want to check it out, the above link takes you to Jeff Alderson's main page for Ad Word Analyzer. You may find more info than what's here, or even buy it if you want.
