Think And Grow Rich Review
(Napoleon Hill)
First published in 1937, Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich" is the result of over 20 years of interviews and research.
Here's the story behind this huge effort of Napoleon Hill's:
As a young journalist (a 'nobody' reporter), Napoleon Hill was given the assignment of interviewing some successful people. His big break came when one of these successful persons who granted him an interview was Andrew Carnegie...
Andrew Carnegie came to United States from Scotland and made a fortune in the steel industry, becoming the "Bill Gates" of his day. At the time, he had the distinction of having more millionaires working for him than any other employer in the world. But besides authoring the great "How To Win Friends and Influence People," Carnegie was a great philanthropist whose huge donations made it possible to build a lot of the public libraries and Universities that you use today.
Andrew Carnegie was fascinated with the question of why some people--like himself--who came from dirt poor beginnings were wildly successful in business while other people of the same or better backgrounds didn't amount to squat.
So it was perfect timing when the young Napoleon Hill approached him for an interview. You see, Hill came from disadvantaged beginnings, too. Born in a one-room cabin in 1883 in Virginia, his mother died when he was only 10. At only 13, however, Napoleon Hill started his career as a "mountain reporter" for small, local newspapers and fought his way up through the ranks to become a successful reporter. Andrew Carnegie took to this eager young reporter and hired him to continue his interviewing process. But he gave Napoleon Hill the following assignment:
To interview 500 millionaires in order to discover a "success formula" that any average person could apply for similar success... Hill ended up interviewing 504 people including Henry Ford, Wrigley, Eastman, Rockefeller, Thomas Edison, F. Woolworth, Burbank, Morgan, Firestone, and three United States Presidents.
The result is "Think And Grow Rich."
The only negative thing that could be said about the book has nothing to do with its content but with the style of writing---it's a little repetitive in certain areas and worded with the lingo of the day. But even this can be considered to be a "positive." Because older books written like this take on a power all their own, in my opinion, making them more believable and more powerful than many modern-day books.
Think of the research that went into this book! Remember: although businesses have changed and techniques have changed, one thing has not changed: The way people think. This is the whole philosophy of "Think And Grow Rich;" Napoleon Hill found that it wasn't that the people he interviewed were more talented than anyone else, but that they all 'thought' differently. It's this way of thinking that he attempts to teach you.
A must read!!
Also, a must listen! ;) Here's Amazon.com's audio version of "Think And Grow Rich." On the same page are several book versions as well.
But remember that the audio version of any book will, of course, save you gobs of time. ("Stop wasting time in your vehicle.")
